Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Review & Upgrade Guide

Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Review & Upgrade Guide

Got the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic a few days ago, and here’s my confession:
When Samsung first showed that “squircle” shape, I was like — absolutely not. Looked weird, too boxy-round, just… no. 🙅‍♂️
Fast-forward to me actually wearing it… yeah, it’s a true ‘shut up and take my money’ moment.
In person it’s way more premium than the pics, the rotating bezel still feels buttery smooth, and the faux-leather strap is surprisingly nice. Kinda nails that “business-meets-sporty” vibe.

TL;DR for the impatient

  • Have a Watch 7 / 7 Ultra → Skip, unless you really want the new shape or shiny new toys.
  • Have a Watch 6 Classic → Faster chip + some new stuff, but only worth it if you’re cool with the squircle vibes.
  • Have a Watch 4 / 5 → Big jump in speed, screen, features — just do it.
  • First watch? Pick based on budget + style:
    • Long battery: 7 Ultra
    • Rotating bezel: 8 Classic
    • No bezel + round face: Watch 7

Let’s break it down

1. Watch 7 / 7 Ultra owners

Yeah… same W1000 chip, slightly bigger battery, still a one-day charger.
You do get the 3000-nit display, two more health metrics, and that squircle shape.
If your 7 Ultra’s still kicking, honestly, just keep it — it’s already a tank with better endurance.

2. Watch 6 Classic owners

New squircle frame, new lug system (bye-bye old straps 😢), slightly bigger battery but no real extra runtime.
Gains: custom quick button, Gemini AI, new health stuff.

Performance-wise, your 6 Classic is kinda on par with the 4/5, so yeah, the 8 Classic will feel snappier.
Question is… do you like that squircle enough to spend $$$? If yes — go for it.
If you’re ride-or-die for a round face, stay put.

3. Watch 4 / 5 owners

This one’s a glow-up: brighter screen, faster chip, rotating bezel (Classic), Gemini AI, extra health tracking — the whole shebang.
If your watch feels laggy or the battery dies before dinner, the 8 Classic is a solid jump.
Hate the squircle? Then 7 or 7 Ultra might be your jam.

4. First-time buyers

  • Budget + long battery? → 7 Ultra (2–3 days per charge if you’re lucky)
  • Love spinning bezels + smooth perf? → 8 Classic
  • Hate bezels + hate squircle? → Watch 7, easy.

Final thoughts

8 Classic = new look, brighter screen, more goodies, faster chip (vs 4/5/6C), same meh battery, pricier.

I jumped from a Watch 4 Classic straight to the 8 Classic and ngl, the speed boost + new features feel worth it…
even if the bettery still isn’t amazing.

Oh, and for my fellow “no squircle, please” folks — seriously, try it on in store.
I thought I’d hate it, but it actually looks way better on wrist. lol
